Todd Eckel, Ed.D.
It all began with two of my children. The tears, the late-night homework sessions, the labored reading, the guilt. We asked ourselves: learning isn’t supposed to be this hard, right? The answer after years of struggle was: no.
My goal is to use my 20+ years of literacy teaching, education, and advocacy work to help you and your child answer that question sooner.
Using a structured and guided approach to reading, we can bridge the gaps and provide tools your child can use for the rest of their lives.
What Drives Me.
-
Theory.
I have both my master’s and doctorate in education. My doctoral work focused on literacy and second language acquisition and the role literacy can play in advocating for one’s self and their community.
I have completed the Wilson Reading System Introductory Course and I am working toward becoming a WRS Level I Certified Wilson® Dyslexia Practitioner (W.D.P.). This certification comes with over a hundred hours of study and practical work with dyslexic children.
-
Practice.
I have over 20 years of experience working with literacy and development from infancy to adulthood. I have run a community-based nonprofit family literacy program and taught in K-12 settings. I have taught in the Colleges of Education at Florida Atlantic University, Azusa Pacific University, and the University of La Verne. I also work closely with the Center for Neurodiversity and Wellness through the University of La Verne to identify and tutor children with learning differences.
Not least of all, I have two children with dyslexia and dysgraphia. Nothing you can learn or practice can prepare you to work so intimately and passionately with literacy and dyslexia than helping your own children.
